He had suggested “ladder racing,” just because it sounded pretty ridiculous. Unbeknownst to my friend, ladder racing is actually a sport of sorts as demonstrated in this incredible video clip:

Comments on this vdieo claim it to be of Czech origin, though I can’t find any proof of that.

One possibility is that what you see here is a derivative of a popular sport/competition/ego boost/training exersize/morale builder known as Firematic Racing, and is most popular in New York and Florida.
